Power Settings

[PISTON_ENGINE] and [TURBOPROP_ENGINE] Sections

The [PISTON_ENGINE] and [TURBOPROP_ENGINE] sections contain the parameters that define the power scale factor for your aircraft engine(s).

The amount of power generated by an engine and the power required for a propeller to turn through the air determine the increase and decrease of the RPM. Power can be scaled from the calculated values generated for piston and turboprop engines.

Here is the [PISTON_ENGINE] section from Flerk's Corsair with comments removed ...

power_scalar = 1.0

This value is a scale factor for the aircraft engine's power output.

Changing the power_scalar value affects the amount of power delivered by the engine to the propeller shaft.

This also holds true for a [TURBOPROP_ENGINE].

[PROPELLER] and [JET_ENGINE] Sections

Propeller thrust is a function of the power delivered through the propeller shaft, propeller RPM, blade angle, airplane speed, and air density. Jet engine thrust is a function of engine temperature, compressor speed, aircraft speed and air density. The thrust_scalar parameter scales the calculated thrust for propeller and pure jet engines.

This value is a scale factor for the calculated propeller thrust.

Changing the power_scalar value affects the amount of power delivered by the engine to the propeller shaft.

This also holds true for a [JET_ENGINE].
